In a city where renowned super chefs are serving up haute cuisine and attracting high-profile guests to some of Toronto’s trendiest downtown locations, it’s getting harder and harder to find a spot for a taste of no-nonsense old-school cooking and unpretentious atmosphere. But just a short jump northwest of the bustling city centre, unassumingly tucked away on St. Clair Avenue West’s colourful Corso Italia strip, sits La Bruschetta, purveyor of some of the best classic Italian cuisine in Toronto, and a most unlikely celebrity hot spot.

For almost 30 years, the Piantoni family have been welcoming customers to La Bruschetta as if they were part of their family – a practice that has attracted a laundry list of Hollywood names, just look at the dozens of celebrity-autographed plates lining the walls, names such as – Kelsey Grammer, Matthew Broderick, Sandra Oh, Richard Gere, Sophia Loren, John Malkovich, Viggo Mortensen, Bette Midler, Marg Helgenberger, Ryan Gosling – a list that only scratches the surface of the celebs who have joined the Piantonis for a fine Italian meal. Part of the Piantoni’s extended Hollywood famiglia is vet¬eran actor Joe Mantegna, who’s been known to drop in the Piantoni home solo or with a few castmates on a Sunday.

With more and more people eating at home or searching for that top-end downtown dining experience, what keeps La Bruschetta going strong?

To know the answer you’ll have to taste our complimentary well renowned Bruschetta, our homemade gnocchi and pastas to die for adorned with our homemade sauces ranging from pomodoro, creamy brandy, limocello, and gorgonzola. May we then suggest a mouth-watering main course which includes veal medallions in a wild mushroom and marsala wine sauce or perhaps roast veal stuffed with spinach in a pureed vegetable and red wine sauce. Whatever you decide, your palate will be aroused and craving for more. We also have an extensive wine cellar for those wine aficionados. After your meal, enjoy a delicate lemon ice or homemade Tiramisu for dessert.
